Legal Culture in the Age of Globalization

Petrana Stoikova

Abstract

Any lawful behavior depends on how and to what extend the so called legal socialization is implemented in a certain society or community. The legal information is one of the main socializing factors in this process. The accumulation of legal knowledge somewhat reduces the likelihood of a commitment of a legal offense. In the globalized world, there are several challenges for the legal knowledge in relation to the legal socialization. These include but not limited to distrust in the judicial power due to promotion of its shortcomings and unification of the legal systems (loss of their specifics). Other main challenges address the increase of the global inequalities as a result from the Internet access and very complicated legal reality. Additionally, recent problematic points are the objectivity and the stimulation the globalization of democratic ideas and civil society from the media; and neutralization of "the new risks" resulting from lack of knowledge. The legal foundations of the modern democracies and the inevitable globalization increasingly produce a higher level of legal culture.
